I created this template in order to keep track of my cooking journey and find a place for all those recipes that I scribble on loose pieces of paper.
As a training chef, it is very important to keep track of all the iterations of a recipe I make, so I can reflect on previous mistakes, or make welcome improvements. This allows to tweak recipes to perfection.
In this template, you can find several interconnected databases, that you can modify to your convenience.
The main database is the Recipe Book. By filling this one out, you will automatically be feeding the Ingredients db. There’s an intermediate Ingredientes per recipe db, but you don’t need to worry about that one.
You will only use the Ingredients view available within each recipe, and everything will be taken care of.
Don’t bother filling out the title for the ingredients. It’s a mandatory field, but not useful in our case.
In my own experience, I like putting a little number next to each ingredient to point out which step it is used for. This is of great help during the mise en place. Last but not least, at the bottom of the page a view from the Diary will let you know when was the last time you cooked this recipe. To make things easier, I keep a shortcut on my iPhone that lets me quickly add an entry each time I cook. Don’t forget to take a picture!!
You can also choose your favorite picture and set it as the recipe’s cover.
There are two additional databases for specific Techniques and Tools. I find this useful when planning a menu or wanting to hone a particular skill.
If you want to search by ingredient, you only need to search and click on your favorite one, to see all the recipes that contain it.
If you have any questions or want any help with setting your page up, you can email me on [email protected].
Now it’s up to you to fill this page with your best treats.
Enjoy your cooking!
